Elise Gold Sewall is a contemporary realistic oil painter whose work explores the transformative power of light, color, reflection, and translucency.

Through luminous still lives, she transforms familiar subjects into compelling studies of atmosphere, moments often overlooked in everyday life.
 

She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, Michigan State University with the late James Adley, the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and the Art Students League of New York, where she studied with Karen O’Neil.

After her formal art training, Sewall spent more than twenty-five years as an award-winning fine jewelry designer in New York City.
Designing and rendering precious gemstones and metals gave her an intimate understanding of reflected and refracted light, an experience that continues to influence her paintings today.
 

While she began her painting career focusing on portraits and landscapes,
her work has evolved toward still life, where she finds inspiration in the interaction of light, color, transparency, and reflection.
Her paintings invite viewers to pause and rediscover the what is found in ordinary objects.

Sewall’s work has been exhibited and recognized in juried exhibitions locally, nationally, and internationally, and is held in private collections throughout the United States.
